Authorities in Rawalpindi have exposed a shocking case of crude oil theft, where criminals dug a secret tunnel from a private house to reach the underground pipeline of Pakistan Oilfields Limited.
The culprits devised a hidden system by placing a storage tank under a dumper truck and covering it with gravel, allowing them to steal crude oil without attracting public or official suspicion.
The illegal scheme was exposed dramatically when a sudden fire erupted during the theft operation. Firefighting teams rushed to control the blaze, which ultimately revealed the dangerous extraction setup.
Police immediately launched an operation and registered a case at Dhamiyaal Police Station against five accused. Officials confirmed that the investigation aims to trace the wider criminal network involved.
This high-risk method not only caused financial losses but also posed grave safety hazards. Experts stressed that oil theft through tunnels can lead to explosions, severe environmental damage, and loss of human lives.
